Meet Our Staff
Alexis Tenpas - Owner
Owner Alexis (Lexie) Tenpas has been a long time member of the Central Sands team. She continues to operate Central Sands Buildings, Inc. around the integrity, principles, and best practices of past owner, Skip Tenpas.
In addition to Owner, she holds the position of Advertising Manager: promoting products and sponsoring charitable events, donations, and fund raisers. She also manages marketing, promotion, insurance, employee resource, and public relations.
Alexis has stayed up to date on trends and culture of the area while being a 10-year member of the local Economic Development Board. With years of experience and a BS degree in Education, she is a vital part of the Central Sands team.
Jim McCarthy - Sales
Jim McCarthy is a registered structural engineer with extensive experience in building design, estimating, building construction, and project management.
He not only has design and estimating experience, but he has hands-on experience in fabricating, framing, pouring concrete, and erecting steel.
Jim has the practical background to creatively help you with your building needs.

Company History
Leading Central Wisconsin in Customer Satisfaction Since 1978
Taking pride in our commitment to customer satisfaction, Central Sands Buildings has maintained a leadership position in a four county area in central Wisconsin since its inception in 1978.
Though the history of Central Sands Buildings, Inc. spans over two decades, the fundamental values on which the company was built remain in force today. In short, Central Sands Buildings takes great pride in helping clients see their dream become a reality.
Central Sands is built around the integrity and principles of its past owner, Skip Tenpas. Skip left us after a long battle with acute myeloid leukemia Dec. 22, 2010. His ideal principles and best practices will continue at Central Sands Buildings, Inc.
Skip had been with Central Sands since 1979; his longevity brought experience and wisdom to the business. He was college educated and continued to upgrade his skills and knowledge by attending accredited seminars and training sessions. Skip possessed excellent communication skills which he utilized to enhance our business by doing massive networking and broadening our sales area.
- 2008 - Built our first multi-unit facility for manufacturing: 260,000 total sq. ft.
- 2007 - Built our first Hardwall building for a manufacturing facility in Janesville, WI
- 2007 - Built a large warehouse for the food industry: 140,000 sq. ft.
- 2006 - Built for the University of WI. A Potato Research facility built on the Hancock Research Station in Hancock, WI. State of the art facility.
- 2006 - Built for the Federal Government - fire station and equipment building for the Fish and Wildlife Department.
- 2004 - Built our first 2-story office and warehouse building, using a large amount of glass for the front of the building.
- 2004 - Central Sands' 1st spec building in partnership with a local Township.
- 2004 - Built our first Korteck panelized office building. Butler's patented panel for high efficiency construction.
- 2003 - Built our first Solid Core EPS building - restaurant and bar. Very high efficiency R-26 wall insulation and R-50 roof insulation.
- 1999 - Central Sands Buildings sold our first Butler® all steel dairy facility.
- 1996 - We completed our first commercial building in an industrial park.
- 1995 - Our company began its association with Butler® Commercial Division - the world's premier pre-engineered steel building manufacturer.
- 1990s - The company saw even more changes and growth. Larger potato storage buildings were built and soon onion storage was added.
- 1978 - Founded by William Kleckner, the company sought to promote Butler® Ag Buildings and Grain bins in the Plainfield area. The early years focused mainly on the sale and construction of farm shops, machine storage and grain storage. But as the area grew and agricultural needs increased, the company moved into potato storage construction with the introduction of the AgMaster building.
